We have read Dulce et Decorum Est, a poem by World War 1 poet, Wilfred Owen.

We thought about some of the terrible things that happen when people are at war and we read how many people suffered.

We wrote, in role, as young soldiers, these letters to parents.

‘Dulce et Decorum Est, pro patria mori’, means it is sweet and right to die for one’s country. We had discussions, in class talking about whether we agreed with this or not….

The Journey

We read a book by Francesca Sanna called The Journey. The story is about refugees, trying to escape the uncertainty of their country so they can have a better life, somewhere new. Our art shows a dark place, which represents the place the family is in and an opening in the picture, revealing a happier setting that they aspire to reach.
