Educational Visits
Educational visits and journeys form an important part of school life. At Good Shepherd, we aim to provide opportunities for personal development which may not be available within our school premises. We believe that participation in high quality visits by pupils and staff will enhance development and wellbeing, promote positive interactions between pupils and staff and will also improve overall school performance and ethos, giving children a wider perspective of the local environment, London and the world.
It is our aim that while children are at our school, they will have visited a museum, and an art gallery, at the very least, in each year group (KS1 and KS2). In addition to this they will have experienced local visits and other trips that will enhance their knowledge of the world and increase their cultural capital
Educational visits are activities arranged by, or on behalf of, our school, which require pupils to leave the school premises, having been authorised to do so by the headteacher or other designated member of staff. They are a valuable way to provide children with a broad range of experiences, support topic work, promote curiosity, stimulate discussion and generate further interest. They can also assist in teaching life skills, promoting independence and provide a foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth.
Visits may include:
- Visits to places of interest in the local area
- Day visits to places such as museums and other cultural and educational institutions
- Sporting activities
- Adventurous and recreational activities
- Residential trips organised by the school.
As far as possible, we endeavour to keep educational day visits free so that there is no cost to families and instead parents and carers can focus on volunteering and accompanying their child on their class visits.
