Bikeability and Bike to School Week
This week, over 20 of our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils took part in Bikeability, organised by Cycle Confident. The children learnt about the importance of having well maintained bikes, cycling with care and road safety and should now be much more confident and proficient cyclists. All children received their Level 1 certificates and a further 15 achieved Level 2. Thank you to Peter and Andrew from Cycle Confident for their excellent supervision and tuition.
Against this, it is fitting that national Bike to School Week, the annual event to showcase the benefits of cycling to school, takes place next week, running 23 – 27 September 2019. There is lots of information on this, including a free ‘Guide to walking, cycling and scooting to school’; there’s also a photo competition to win a new bike. Fitness must be in the air because it is National Fitness Day on Wednesday 25 September 2019. Yet another reason to cycle, walk or scooter to school, or get off the bus a stop earlier – incorporating simple extra physical activities such as these in your daily routine is an easy, and free, way to boost your fitness levels and reap the health benefits.
